Into The Space, 2008

Video, 6mins 40seconds

Into The Space explores Lee’s interest in early notions of space travel and science fiction combined with exploring notions of countries with a long and complicated history. This was Lee's first attempt to go ‘Into The Space’. Lee's interest is with comparisons of putting the moon landing next to the current state of affairs with genetic engineering, where the competition between powerful countries forces them to play with nature in order to advance their own status in the international playing field. This piece also plays with the ideas of sending living beings into space in the 50’s as a solution for the possibility of over population in the future.

The work was Realised during a residency at Stiftung Starke, Berlin, Germany. Supported by Arts Council England, Springhill Institute and Stiftung Starke.
